According to a recent report by The Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur’s Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen on bringing Lazio centre-half Luiz Felipe to Tottenham Hotspur amid heavy rumours linking star man Toby Alderweireld with a link away from the capital.
It is suggested that Alderweireld’s contract and hence future still remain heavily uncertain and a confused situation like that could have heavy repercussions on the future of the club. This is only one of the reasons why Spurs should make a move for Felipe in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Toby Alderweireld has been a vital member of Pochettino’s setup for a long time now and while his services will certainly be missed by the Tottenham faithful, replacing him shouldn’t be too much of a task considering that is mainly an orthodox no-nonsense defender.
Luiz Felipe was a youth product of the Ituano academy and that’s where he rose to fame as a top-quality centre-half. Having played football in Brazil since a young age, it wasn’t hard for him to crack into the professional level of the game.
He got his big break in 2016 when Serie A giants Lazio came calling all the way to Ituano directly for the youngster signature. Since making the move across continents a few years back, Felipe has really announced himself in the Serie A with some excellent displays this season.
Having spent a season out on loan at Salernitana right after he joined Lazio, he got a feel of Italian football and since then, there’s been no stopping him. Seemingly always calm and collected on the ball, his ability to stay relaxed and move the ball in tight situations is one of his main assets.
Supremely talented in the air and boasting an uncanny amount of physical strength as well, the Brazilian has the right stature, and in fact mindset, for the English style of play and making a move to the Premier League will be ideal for him with the best interests of his future at mind.
He provides excellent cover on the counter and has the ability to read play superbly. Always one step ahead of the attackers, he times his tackles extremely well and has really shown himself in an excellent light every time he’s been given an opportunity to express himself this season.
His numbers this season have been quite impressive as he managed to score a goal in one of his 11 league appearances while he’s made a total of 51 appearances for the Serie A club. With a lone assist to his name as well, there is certainly scope for improvement.
