Burnley Opinion: Why Sean Dyche should reignite his interest in Jayden Bogle
According to an earlier report from Sky Sports back in January, Burnley were interested in signing 18-year-old Derby County starlet Jayden Bogle. However, a move to the Premier League never really materialized for the youngster and he stayed put at Pride Park to help Frank Lampard’s side in their surge for promotion.
Bogle, who was promoted to Derby’s senior team only last summer, has caught the eye with his consistently impressive performances at right-back and has emerged as one of the breakout stars of the Championship this season.
The Englishman has played a key role in Derby’s promotion push this term, making 31 appearances in the Championship and contributing with 4 assists.
The Rams currently sit 6th in the standings in the race for a playoff spot. Bogle also showed a high level of maturity that defied his tender years in the Carabao Cup ties against Man United and Chelsea earlier in the season.
Bogle has impressed with his decision-making and composure at the back, whilst also making a name for himself with his quick feet and trickery on the ball.
He hasn’t looked like a player who played for Derby’s youth team just a season ago, not afraid to rub shoulders with the big boys and exhibiting solid temperament.
The 18-year-old has a good eye for a pass, knows how to get involved in the build-up play, likes to drive forward with pace and his tackling is better than most of the young players in the same mould, having successfully completed 76 out of his attempted 101 tackles so far.
Bogle has also earned rave reviews for his uncompromising work-rate, being able to partol up and down the pitch throughout the 90 minutes.
To put things into perspective, Burnley should reignite their interest in Bogle next summer in a bid to bolster their backline with some young blood.
The Clarets endured a poor start to their Premier League campaign this term, and although they have put their foot on the accelerator since the turn of the year, Sean Dyche’s side find themselves 17th in the standings and just two points clear of the relegation zone.
In what has been a below-par season for Burnley, the Clarets haven’t looked like the team that finished 7th in the Premier League last term.
Stability at the back was one of the key factors behind their success last season but they have been rather inconsistent defensively this term, which has in turn exposed their lack of creativity in attack.
Charlie Taylor has been a regular at left-back while Matthew Lowton and Phil Bardsley have been rotated at right-back.
Bardsley, 33, has looked vulnerable at the back and, with the former Man United man reaching the twilight of his career, Dyche should look to bring in a long-term replacement. Going by what we have seen of Bogle in the Championship, he can be an upgrade on the ageing Bardsley.

Jayden Bogle has already shown strong signs of excellence and he certainly has the skill and the character to make his mark in the Premier League. That said, Burnley should go all out to sign him in the summer.
