Three strikers Huddersfield Town could sign to avoid relegation
Between Steven Mounie, Adama Diakhaby, Laurent Depoitre and Collin Quaner, Huddersfield Town have four centre-forwards. However, their four centre-forwards have only scored a grand total of one goal in a combined total of 45 appearances so far this season. All four have been outscored by centre-back Zanka, who is the Terriers’ top scorer with three goals and that tells us the story of their season.
However, for manager David Wagner, this poses a major problem especially with the toughest part of the season yet to come. Huddersfield sit at the base of the Premier League table, with the worst attacking record and four points behind 19th place Fulham. To change things, given his meagre budget, Wagner needs to bring in at least one striker who can make a difference.
#3 Roger Matri
The Levante forward has had a tough time in recent seasons. He was ruled out for nearly six months last season after tearing his ACL during pre-season. However, he’s more than made up for it this year, scoring 8 in 14 La Liga appearances at a rather impressive rate of 124 minutes per goal.
That’s miles ahead of any Huddersfield forward and his goals have been crucial to Levante’s success in the La Liga. Signing him would prove to be an absolute bargain for Wagner and his men.
#2 Dario Benedetto
The Boca Juniors striker has been at his very best for the Argentine giants off late and while he is yet to open his account in the Primera Division this season, his ability in front of goal cannot be doubted, especially after his Copa Libertadores performance.
While the 28-year-old missed nearly half the tournament thanks to a cruciate ligament rupture, he still managed to score five goals and produce two assists in six appearances. Not to mention his history, with Benedetto scoring 29 goals over the last two Primera Division seasons.
However, if Huddersfield want him, they will have to act fast as Football Espana has revealed that an unnamed Chinese side is quite interested in his services. Given their access to never-ending funds, it could prove to be an issue if Boca Juniors choose to accept the transfer fee.
#1 Oumar Niasse
The Everton outcast could become Huddersfield’s saviour despite all his troubles the Merseyside since his arrival from Lokomotiv Moscow. At 28, Niasse’s time at Goodison Park is coming to an end with the Sun reporting that Crystal Palace have started the bidding war for the Senegalese international.
That only means that Huddersfield will have to act fast to bring in the experienced Premier League forward, but will David Wagner take a £6.5million hit to bring in the Everton man? That’s something only the Huddersfield boss can answer, and given the state of his attack at the moment, he has nothing to lose.
