According to the Mirror, former Manchester City star has expressed his desire to return to the Premier League but has reservations that it might be too late in his career to return to English football.
Dzeko’s desire to return to England has put some of the mid-table clubs on alert. Southampton, Crystal Palace and Cardiff City see the 32-year-old Bosnian international as a remedy to their goalscoring issues. (h/t Mirror)
Dzeko spent the peak of his career in the top flight of English football with Manchester City and won two Premier League titles over the course of his five-year stay at the Etihad. He scored 72 goals for the Citizens across all competitions but left the club after a disappointing 2014-15 season where he contributed with just 6 goals.
However, he has proved with his performances for Roma that he far from a spent force in European football. The 32-year-old has an amazing scoring record in Italy, having scored 78 goals in 148 appearances across all competitions.
Let us take a look at 3 Premier League clubs that would be ideal destinations for Dzeko:-
The Eagles have made a dismal start to their campaign and Roy Hodgson’s men continue their hunt for their first home win of the season. In fact, Palace have only scored 5 goals in 8 games and sit 14th in the standings with 7 points.
Quite clearly, the Eagles are in dire need of a quality centre-forward as Christian Benteke is currently sidelined with a knee injury after some horrible displays earlier in the season. On-loan forward Jordan Ayew hasn’t got his name on the scoresheet either and Andros Townsend’s lacklustre form has continued.
As things stand, Edin Dzeko would be the perfect man to solve their goal crisis. He would not be short of supply with Townsend and Wilfried Zaha on the wings, which will allow him to use his pedigree in the air.
Just like Palace, the Saints are also in a similar fix. Mark Hughes’ side have managed to find the net regularly this season and sit 16th in the standings with 5 points from 8 games.
The manager brought in Danny Ings on loan from Liverpool and he has delivered with 3 goals but the other strikers in the team haven’t stepped up. Shane Long, Manolo Gabbiadini, Charlie Austin have all failed to find the net. As a result, the Saints have a horrible goalscoring record, having scored only 6 goals so far.
They have looked quite good with their creation of chances but have lacked the finishing, a problem that Edin Dzeko can solve with ease.
This might surprise a few but the 32-year-old still has enough firepower left in him to play for one of the top six clubs in the Premier League.
Spurs have done reasonably well this season and have lost only two of their first eight games. The Lilywhites also have a decent scoring record in the league with 15 goals in 8 games. However, Harry Kane has had to shoulder the bulk of the workload once again. He has done it efficiently but Spurs will need another top-quality No.9 if they are to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
With Kane in the side, he might not be a regular starter but his ability to score crucial goals after coming off the bench would be invaluable for the Lilywhites. He will certainly do a much better job than Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen.
