Three players Solskjaer could sign to bring Man United back to the top-four spots – including this highly-rated Juventus powerhouse

Manchester United need to get back on track and here are three stars who can help them do that.

The club are languishing in the middle of a crisis, having sacked manager Jose Mourinho and also find themselves a massive 19 points behind league leaders, Liverpool. To make things worse, they may not even make a Champions League spot given the competition for a place in the top four at the moment in the Premier League.

Appointing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their caretaker manager till the end of the season is a good move, but whether or not the former United star can stabilize the club, that’s something only time will reveal. But the 45-year-old cannot do that all on his own and needs some help from the players and even the Manchester United board when it comes to the January transfer window.

The Red Devils need to add reinforcements and even first team stars if they want to get the club back on track and ready for it’s next manager. All that said and done, here are three stars who can help the club survive the Premier League for the next few years.

#3 Mats Hummels

The Bayern Munich centre-back was linked with a move to Manchester United (via Bundesliga) all the way back in 2015, opting instead to move to Bayern Munich from Borussia Dortmund. Since then, the 30-year-old has become one of the premier defenders in the world, playing a major part in Bayern Munich winning the last two league titles with the Bavarian giants.

However, now with Niko Kovac and Bayern Munich struggling to make an impact, the German international has suffered. He’s made only 9 appearances in the Bundesliga this season and four in the Champions League, with Bleacher Report revealing that he’s considering leaving. This means that Gunnar Solskjaer has a chance at signing the 30-year-old experienced centre-back to reinforce his defence.

#2 Alessandro Florenzi

The 27-year-old has been in fine form for AS Roma, making 19 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A giants.  At 27, the Italian is the perfect man to replace the ageing Antonio Valencia and even Matteo Darmian with the Italian’s contract expiring at the end of the current season. The Red Devils need a bonafide right and need to stop depending on make-shift wingers playing in that position for them.

That’s what makes Florenzi a great target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he looks to reinforce the back-line and replace the ageing core with younger and capable stars. While they did sign Diogo Dalot during the summer window, the Portuguese star is only 19 years old and needs time to adapt to the heavy schedule.

#1 Douglas Costa

A tricky Brazilian winger, Douglas Costa has been brilliant for Juventus until Cristiano Ronaldo arrived at the club and the 28-year-old lost his place. However, what does improve Ole Gunnar Solskjaer chances of signing the former Bayern Munich man are the reports Daily Mail have revealed that the club had planned a raid for the Juventus star over January.

The Brazilian hasn’t had the best season so far making 15 appearances this season but has yet to find the back of the net. He has, however, created two goals for his fellow Juventus team-mates but that’s far off what he usual produces. Last season, Costa finished with six goals and 14 assists, which is exactly what makes him a brilliant target for Manchester United.
