UFC 244 saw Jorge Masvidal take on Nate Diaz for the BMF title

Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz clashing at UFC 244 will go down as one of the greatest fights in the history of UFC.

Not only was UFC 244 the 500th live event for the promotion, it also featured a couple of the toughest people on the planet.

Diaz had challenged Masvidal at UFC 241 after beating Anthony Pettis. Masvidal accepted and UFC president Dana White also presented a belt for the BMF “baddest mother******” which the winner would get.

The date of UFC 244 was 2 November 2019, and other fights were also part of the show.

However, the main event was between Masvidal and Diaz, and that fight didn’t disappoint either.

Doctor comes into play

Both fighters gave it their all in the fight but the big event took place just before the fourth round.

Diaz had a nasty cut above his eye and was bleeding profusely from it.

The doctor came in to stop the fight and check on Diaz, however, 34-year-old claimed he was good to go.

The match was stopped before the final two rounds could take place and the fans were unhappy with the decision.

They were booing throughout while Masvidal and Diaz also didn’t agree with the decision to stop the fight.

The pair did have respect for each other, but ending UFC 244 this was left a bit of a bitter taste in the mouths of everyone.

Future fight possible

Thus, Masvidal became the first BMF champion in the UFC but he certainly wasn’t happy with the manner of his victory.

The BMF champion, in his post-fight conference, said he didn’t want to taint this win and was ready for another bout against Diaz.

Masvidal added he had respect for the 34-year-old but was willing to take him on again.

There were questions regarding the cut above Diaz’s eye in that match. However, White also spoke about that issue.

The UFC president had met the star and added that the cut was “really bad” and the doctor’s decision was right to stop the fight.

Diaz was also open to a rematch, however, things have changed for Masvidal. The 35-year-old is set to have a huge next fight against Kamaru Usman for the Welterweight title.

Diaz, for his part, also hasn’t fought since UFC 244. And it will be interesting to see if the pair meet sometime in the future.

The UFC isn’t hosting any fights now due to the coronavirus pandemic. Hopefully, things will improve soon and life will get back to normal for all across the world.
