Leslie Smith didn’t have a great time at UFC 180 against Jessica Eye after her ear exploded from a punch
Jessica Eye might have won the UFC 180 fight against Leslie Smith but her opponent’s ear was the talking point.
The match had to be stopped due to the doctor’s having to work extensively on Smith’s ear.
The action took place in the second round as Eye hit a hard right to Smith’s ear. You could hear the grown groan after the punch as a splash of blood came out from the ear.
However, other angles showed the extent of the damage. The ear had been completely destroyed and blood was oozing out from the wound.
Even the referee, Herb Dean, was left a little shocked at the hit as the match was stopped.
Smith was worked upon by the doctors at the Octagon and the UFC star also posted an image of the gruesome injury.
She even went on to provide a long post of the injury but ultimately thanked the doctors:
“I was pretty mad in the cage. I saw some pictures afterward and I appreciate the doctors looking out for me.”
The fighter also claimed she should have done more to protect her ear.
“Thank you for all the support, thank you to my sponsors Kleinburg Private Wealth, Venum, Major’s Pharmacy, Vitality Bowls, and WODBOX. Thank you to my team and my coaches at El Niño Training Center for getting me ready.”
Mick Foley, of the WWE, also had an ear injury in the past and shared Leslie’s image with his from years back.

A report claimed that Smith was suffering from cauliflower ear, which happens due to constant contact with the ear.
Smith leaves the UFC
The 37-year-old isn’t with the UFC anymore and her last bout was for the Bellator promotion in November 2019.
Smith holds a record of 11 wins and eight losses in her MMA career and was on a three-win run before losing to Ariene Biencowe.
As for Eye, the 33-year-old holds a 15-7 record with one no-contest. Smith is still with the UFC and won her last fight at UFC 245.
Eye even had the chance to win the Women’s Flyweight title at UFC 238, but lost that bout to Valentina Shevchenko.
