Even NBA players can’t avoid a jury summons. In Akron, Ohio, where he was born and raised, LeBron James was once summoned for jury service. LeBron James was then a player for the Miami Heat. He was required to serve on a jury in Akron, Ohio, as part of his civic duty.
You might view jury duty as an essential component of the social compact. Citizens must be available when needed, stand up for their fellow human beings, endure long periods of waiting, and maybe use their discretion to resolve a matter in a court of law. This is a contract that binds all citizens together.
In a tweet sent at that time, James, who was spending the summer in Akron, stated, “time to fulfill my civic duty,” as he was leaving his home.
James’ arrival at the Sutton County courtroom in downtown Akron reportedly caused a stir, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. At 10:30 a.m., he exited the building after being excused from the jury for the trial.
LeBron didn’t make the cut for jury duty
The biggest drawback for LeBron is that in 2009, Summit County ceased paying jurors. That ought to significantly lower his placement on that Forbes list.
LeBron James received a summons for jury service, just like every other American. He seemed content about having to get up early and spend the day in a courtroom, in contrast to the majority of Americans. As granted, all of this was a result of the unwritten social contract LeBron James signed when he became an NBA superstar, and the benefits are incredible. However, he was not going to a club, a restaurant, or even conducting errands when he did this. He is required to do this by the government. Just a fun little exercise to see how the social contract affects famous individuals differently.
