Time for goodbye – Newcastle offloading this 27-year-old surplus star would be the right choice by Bruce

Why Newcastle United should let go of DeAndre Yedlin

According to CBS Sports (h/t Yorkshire Post), DeAndre Yedlin is set for crunch talks regarding his future at Newcastle United on Monday.

A key player for the Magpies since his arrival from Tottenham back in 2016, right-back Yedlin has fallen down the pecking order under new boss Steve Bruce. A regular under former boss Rafa Benitez, Yedlin has now been replaced by Javier Manquillo as the side’s first-choice right-back.

Yedlin has just made nine starts out of his overall 15 Premier League appearances, managing just four clean sheets so far. His poor form and inconsistent displays at right-back has seen him fall out of favour with new boss Bruce.

Apart from poor form, Yedlin had also been hampered by various injuries this season, due to which he spent a major share of his side on the timelines.

Yedlin surplus to requirements at Newcastle

Meanwhile, Yedlin just has one more year left on his St. James’ Park contract and the club is yet to offer him a new deal. With his future at the Newcastle still remaining uncertain, the 27-year-old is prepared to leave the club, with interest for him mounting from other foreign clubs.

The report also claims that there is a 90 percent chance that Yedlin would depart the club, for whom he has so far featured 114 times across all competitions. However, with Spaniard Manquillo impressing boss Bruce with six clean sheets from 18 league appearances so far, it seems hugely unlikely that Yedlin can once again regain his spot within the side.

The Magpies had also roped in 25-year-old right-back Emil Krafth from Amiens last summer. Despite it being his first season, Krafth has impressed with 14 Premier League appearances.

He was also a starter in the last three of their league encounters, making it clear that he is in manager Bruce’s plans for the future. With Manquillo and Krafth clearly performing better, Yedlin will find it increasingly hard to make himself a regular at St. James’ Park in the coming days.

With the side already well-stacked in that department, Yedlin looks surplus to the club’s requirements at the moment. Hence, they should not waste any time and offload the out-of-favour right-back.

Verdict

Despite his past displays for Newcastle, Yedlin has failed to establish himself as the side’s No.1 man at right-back under Bruce this season. Moreover, the arrival of newcomer Krafth has put him further down the pecking order. The Magpies should hence sell the 27-year-old American and make use of that money to strengthen areas that need real improvement.
