Real Madrid are preparing to offer star man Cristiano Ronaldo an improved contract in an effort to keep him in the Spanish capital. With Juventus interested in the Portuguese wizard, Los Blancos are in a predicament as to whether they should keep their star man or shockingly, sell him. The Italian club are understood to have bid €100m for the 33-year-old.
Ronaldo has a slew of individual achievements is a modern-day icon for the club. However, if we take a look at this situation in hindsight, it will be wise for Real to offload him this summer.
At 33 years of age, Ronaldo isn’t getting any younger. It is hard to doubt a great player like him but at some point, his performance level will go down, affecting the progress of the team.
Real Madrid must sell their star man instead and utilize the funds generated to purchase players who can stay at the Bernabeu for the next half-a-decade or so. This will also help new manager Julien Lopetegui rebuild the squad.
If Real sell him, the European champions could target the likes of Eden Hazard, who is open for a move away from Chelsea. In addition to that, the La Liga giants could also make a move for Robert Lewandowski, who has supposedly handed in a transfer request to Bayern Munich.
Investing in these new players will aid Lopetegui in his quest to establish a solid team ahead of the new term.
Keeping Ronaldo will only help Los Blancos on a short-term basis. And offering him a new contract will be a huge risk since he is an ageing player who can be off-colour at times.
