Why Leicester City should offload Bartosz Kapustka soon

According to Weszlo FM (h/t Leicestershire Live), Leicester City outcast Bartosz Kapustka is convinced that he should leave the club this summer.

Pole Kapustka was one of the brightest upcoming talents in Europe when he moved to City in 2016 under then-manager Claudio Ranieri. His impressive displays for Poland at the Euro 2016 had earned him a £2m switch to England from Polish side Cracovia.

However, the 23-year-old has failed to break into the first-team and has managed just three appearances for Leicester, all of which came under Ranieri in his maiden season.

Despite managers coming and going, nothing seems to have changed for the Polish attacking midfielder who has now fallen way down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium.

After his first season with the Foxes, Kapustka had been sent on loan to Freiburg in 2017/18, which was followed by another loan spell at Leicester City’s sister club OH Leuven last time out.

However, he couldn’t make much of an impact in either of his loan spells, with the Pole suffering a serious knee injury during his time at Leuven in the Belgian second division.

Kapustka’s spell at Freiburg saw him feature an overall nine times for the Bundesliga outfit and score once. He was performing well at Leuven, scoring thrice in his 21 league appearances before he got injured.

The Pole made a comeback since his return from injury and featured for the Leicester U-23 side in the Premier League 2, but has still failed to make it into the first-team squad.

Also, with the Brendan Rodgers-led side having a squad filled with as many as 11 midfielders including him, Kapustka’s chances seem even meagre. The rise of Englishman James Maddison as one of the league’s best attacking midfielders further restricted his entry.

Moreover, with the likes of Youri Tielemans, Harvey Barnes and Dennis Praet growing in stature and establishing themselves as first-team regulars, Kapustka’s chances now seem increasingly limited.

Hence, Leicester would be doing the right thing by offloading the youngster, who is clearly surplus to the team’s requirements at the moment.

Verdict

Having spent four years of his career in the shadows at Leicester, Kapustka has every reason to crave for a move someplace else. Moreover, it would be better if the Foxes let go of a player, who is of no use to the team at the moment. He clearly does not fall under manager Rodgers’ plans and selling him now seems like the perfect option for Leicester.
