Thomas James Hockenson, a tight end with the Detroit Lions of the National Football League, was born on July 3, 1997. At Iowa, he played college football. He received the John Mackey Award as the top tight end in college football as a redshirt sophomore in 2018.
He earned played defensive back and tight end, and he also established school records for receiving yards in a game, season, and career. As a senior, he led his team to the state playoffs and was named to the first team of all-state athletes. The 247Sports.com Composite, which compiles the rankings of the top football recruiting agencies, evaluated Hockenson as a three-star recruit and the seventh-highest-rated recruit in the state of Iowa for the class of 2016. The Lions suffered a 34–30 defeat without Hockenson. His injury reserve status was activated on December 2, 2019. He had 32 receptions for 367 yards and two scores toward the end of the season.
2020
On July 29, 2020[20], the Lions placed Hockenson on the reserve/COVID-19 list; he was then activated ten days later.
Against the Chicago Bears in Week 1, Hockenson made his injury comeback. Hockenson caught five catches for 56 yards and his first season-opening receiving score during the game, which the Lions lost 27-23. Hockenson caught the go-ahead touchdown throw from Matthew Stafford on October 25 during a Week 7 game against the Atlanta Falcons, giving the Lions their third victory of the year. He received his 2021 Pro Bowl selection on December 21, 2020.
2021
