The only Asian female tennis player to grab the WTA top-rankings, Naomi Osaka was chosen as the face of the video for the upcoming mega event – Tokyo Olympics 2020. Osaka is a former World No.1 and two-time Grand Slam winner.
Osaka plays the lead role in the video that was released publicly in order to reveal the official motto of the event: “United by Emotion”. The video was released by The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The motto emphasizes the power of sport to bring together people from diverse backgrounds of every kind and allow them to connect and celebrate in a way that reaches beyond their differences, the committee said.
Born of Haitian-Japanese descent, Osaka represents everything that the video encompasses and gives an overview behind the story of the official Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games motto.
Meanwhile, the video will be displayed in a variety of environments such as competition venues, street decorations, and licensed goods. The committee has also planned to include them in the digital media in a bid to offer them worldwide attention.
Though Osaka has been receiving a lot of media attention of late following her exploits last year, the Japanese star has seen a sudden decline in form. This has seen Osaka lose her World No.1 ranking which she attained in January last year to fall down to sixth place in the table currently.
After enthralling tennis fans with her excellent on-court displays last year, winning two back-to-back Grand Slams – US Open (2018) and the Australian Open (2019), Osaka seems to be suffering a bad patch at the moment.
She failed to defend her Australian Open title this year after she was knocked out of the tournament by American teenage sensation Coco Gauff in the third round recently. Also, Osaka suffered a singles match loss in the recently concluded Federation Cup Qualifiers against a lower-ranked opponent, Sara Sorribes Tormo of Spain.
