Tony Ferguson is trying to incite Dustin Poirier into fighting him

Dustin Poirier secured a massive victory against Conor McGregor at UFC 257, but it wasn’t enough to impress Tony Ferguson.

The Diamond took to Twitter to declare that he is the ‘champion’. And apart from the fact that he’s yet to win the belt again, he’s not really wrong.

Well, obviously, winning the belt is what qualifies you as the champ. But Poirier has been impressive for a while now. His only loss since October 2016 has been to the retired UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

With the king gone, it’s obviously the prince who gets the throne. Poirier has finished Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, Anthony Pettis, and now Conor McGregor, during that time.

He’s also bettered Dan Hooker and Max Holloway in that run, and is surely first in line to get a shot at the lightweight belt. So yes, he is the uncrowned world champion, as he calls himself.

Tony Ferguson wants a fight with Dustin Poirier

But, Tony Ferguson thinks there is one more hurdle Poirier needs to clear before calling himself the best. El Cucuy replied to Poirier’s tweet by saying that he “dodged” him.

The American is hot property right now. Everyone wants a fight with him. And Ferguson would probably not be the first name Poirier would have in mind for the title.

Because let’s be honest, Poirier would be thinking that his next fight is for gold. And Ferguson is not going to be his opponent because of his last two defeats to Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveira.

But you can’t blame the man for trying. And a bout between the two, for the title or not, would honestly be an excellent watch.

However, Ferguson would realistically be aiming for a fight against someone like McGregor to climb his way back up.
