10 Best Anime RPG games for PC

1. Dragon Quest XI

In this Dragon Quest game, the player takes on the role of a Luminary, a silent protagonist. He takes part in the village’s coming-of-age ceremony only to realize that he is the reincarnation of a world-saving hero. Now he and some comrades he’s met have been charged with traveling to Erdrea and embarking on a mission to defend their homeland. If you’re looking for a classic JRPG, Dragon Quest XI packs everything a good old RPG has to offer into one package including the ability to play in 2D mode, which makes it appear as if it’s a completely different game.

2. Final Fantasy XV

The story is set on the planet Eos, which is similar to Earth. The empire of Niflhem rules the planet, seeking control of a magical Crystal guarded by the Lucian royal line. On the day Noctis, the Lucian heir, was to marry Lunafreya, he and his friends received word that Niflheim had been assaulted, the crystal had been lost, King Regis had been assassinated, and Noctis and Lunafreya had been reported dead. Now Noctis must assemble enough strength and allies to uncover the truth and recapture the crystal as well as the crown. If you’re familiar with RPGs, Final Fantasy is almost certainly a title you’ll come across and have played during your gaming journey. It’s nice to see such a long-running game series evolve with the times and consistently improve in terms of graphics and battle system while maintaining crucial elements that define a Final Fantasy game.

3. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy

Courtroom dramas are a common trope in TV shows and animes. We have all seen a passionate lawyer making his case in front of the judge. We can only watch as a promising young lawyer finds the tiniest shred of important evidence that normal people would overlook. Evidence that could spell the difference between a lifetime of freedom and a lifetime in prison. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is an anime game that allows us to be the star of the courtroom. There’s nothing quite like combing every aspect of a case for evidence and putting that hard-won expertise to the test in front of the judge and jury. The exhilarating melodrama of rookie attorney Phoenix’s important court battles plays out like a boxing match, with your razor-sharp arguments and yells of “Take that!” and “Hold it!” startle your opponent.

4. Doki Doki Literature Club

If you’re new to Doki Doki Literature Club, you’re likely to have a lot of questions. And I can assure you that, whatever you may think of the name, Doki Doki Literature Club is probably not what you’re expecting. You’d never guess the horrifying psychological nightmare lurking behind its gleaming harem surface just by looking at screenshots. Doki Doki Literature Club is a violent, genre-defying psychological horror game and interactive visual novel that is ready to frighten you. Last but not least, while Doki Doki is dressed cutely, the plot contains unexpectedly dark themes and subjects like sadness, suicide, insanity, and grotesque. If you can stand it, Doki Doki Literature Club presents a narrative worth listening to, and the terrifying journey is well worth it.

5. TERA

MMORPGs have a reputation for being extremely grindy, with players having to put in a lot of effort to level up their characters. TERA, on the other hand, is not like the others. TERA’s action fighting system is a class apart, especially given it was developed almost a decade ago. The game requires a lot of skill and has a steep learning curve. The massive beasts that wander the open environment will get a lot easier as you continue through the game. You can also check out our list of the top 10 best MMORPG games.

6. NieR: Automata

Strange mechanical monsters from another world have taken control of humanity. In a last-ditch effort to reclaim the planet, mankind has created an army of android troops to fight the invaders. The user will be able to take on the roles of androids 2B, 9S, and A2, each with their own unique perspective on the events occurring in front of them. NieR: Automata has tons of replayability as there are a huge number of things players can do if they choose different subchapters and endings. Nier: Automata will keep you busy if you wish to explore and dive deep into every nook and cranny of a gloomy future environment.

7. Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact is a free-to-play role-playing game, unlike anything we’ve seen before. It has polish, a strong primary premise, a beautiful and bustling open world, co-op, cross-play, a modest paywall, plus it’s an anime game. While comparing it to the anime version of Breath of the Wild doesn’t capture the whole narrative, it does give you an idea of how essential the open world is in this game. Once you’ve completed the tutorial, the open world will lure you in every direction, with camps of foes to clear out for chests, puzzles to solve using environmental abilities, and resources to craft and cook with. Thanks to cross-play and co-op support, you may also explore the beautiful land of Teyvat with up to three other friends.

8. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an action role-playing game based on the Dragon Ball Z anime series. You get to control Goku and the rest of the Z fighters as they fight their way through the anime’s multiple storylines, beginning with the Saiyan Saga and ending with the Majin Buu Saga. If you grew up watching Dragon Ball Z, playing as Goku and his team is the ultimate dream. It’s like re-watching the anime, only this time you get to experience it as Goku himself. Even while previous Dragon Ball games have largely followed the same plot line, the changes to this game keep things fresh. Players will be able to take advantage of short intermissions between sagas to spend time exploring and preparing for the next big plot objective, as well as activities such as cooking and hunting.

9. Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom

Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom deviates from its outstanding predecessor in more ways than one, yet it stands on its own as an ambitious, rewarding JRPG with a giant heart at its core. This time, Studio Ghibli isn’t involved, fights aren’t turn-based, and there’s a new city management gameplay loop and sporadic battles. The fast, kinetic fighting is an upgrade over the classic turn-based combat of the previous Ni No Kuni. Characters have the Ghibli aesthetic, and environments appear to be hand-painted, although closer inspection exposes various inconsistencies. Ni No Kuni 2, in particular, has some of the most diverse and fascinating villages you’ll find in a video game, and that charm transcends the entire experience.

10. Tales of Berseria

Tales of Berseria fulfills the criteria and then some if you’re seeking a conventional JRPG with a significant anime twist. The action is difficult enough to keep you engaged during the roughly 60-hour campaign, even if it isn’t wholly unique, but the emotional tale is the true draw. Tales of Berseria follows a persistently badass female protagonist – a first for the franchise – on her quest to revenge her brother’s death by slaying his murderer, defying a slew of trends we won’t soon forget. It may sound predictable, but Tales of Berseria will surprise you at every twist, and keep you entertained long enough to see what happens next.
