Tottenham have been advised to send Dele Alli on loan by their former player, Clive Allen (source – Football.london). He said that Alli needs to go to a different team to rediscover his old form as he looks short on confidence.
The 24-year-old English midfielder started his youth career at City Colts and moved to MK Dons in 2007. Climbing through the youth ranks, he made his first-team breakthrough in 2013.
He played a total of 4 seasons for the club and made 88 appearances, scoring 24 goals and 15 assists. In 2015, Spurs signed him up but allowed him to return to MK Dons for the remainder of the season, back on loan.
In August 2015, he made his debut for Spurs against Man United. Since then, Alli has gone from strength to strength. He was named the PFA Young Player of the Year in consecutive years, 2016 and 2017. So far, Alli has featured in 228 games for Spurs, scored 63 times and assisted another 55 (source – Transfermarkt).
He was also a prominent part of England’s squad with 37 appearances and 3 goals to date. Nowadays, he finds himself out of contention for the national side.
Much was expected out of Alli after some blistering seasons for Spurs. Currently that is far from happening. The attacking midfielder finds himself fighting for a place in Jose Mourinho’s new look Spurs side as he scrapes through sporadic appearances.
It all started well enough under Mourinho though with 3 goals and 3 assists in his first 4 games under the Portuguese. He was afforded chances but it all changed this season with a bulk of new arrivals. The reintroduction of Tanguy Ndombele put Alli’s spot in question and since the Frenchman’s return, he has looked in good form.
Alli has played a total of 66 minutes in the league (source – Transfermarkt) which should tell you how far down the pecking order he has fallen. At this point, a loan deal does not sound like a bad option. He could use some time away from the limelight and regain his form and clear his head.
Spurs should look for suitors in the January window to loan out Alli. He is clearly being wasted on the bench and playing for some lower-level team would be good for his confidence.
