Tottenham Opinion: Why Spurs should go all out to sign Jack Grealish?

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham are continuing to scout Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.

The north London outfit tried to sign Jack Grealish last summer but were unable to agree a fee with Aston Villa. The 23-year-old had a very slow start to the season and missed the first two months of 2019 injury. Since returning back from injury, he has been excellent and has helped Villa to win their last four games in a row in the Championship.

Grealish’s recent performances certainly will have impressed the Tottenham scouts. That said, Spurs should rekindle their interest to sign the midfielder from Aston Villa.

Mauricio Pochettino has a lot of work to do in the summer transfer window after missing out on the Premier League, once again. And one of his biggest worries will be to replace Christian Eriksen, with the club having accepted the playmaker will leave the club in the summer.

Eriksen enters the final 12 months of his deal this summer, with no talks of an extension as of yet. Spurs would prefer to sell the Dane, rather than lose him for nothing next year, with Spanish giants Real Madrid among the clubs interested in the 27-year-old playmaker, claims the Daily Mail.

It’ll be a tough ask for Tottenham to replace Eriksen, considering his quality, experience and ability to change games in a blink of an eye. Moreover, he has been one of the club’s most consistent performers in the past few seasons under Pochettino. Losing the Denmark international would be a big blow for Pochettino’s side and the club should bring in his replacement this summer itself.

Jack Grealish has the potential to fill the big shoes of Eriksen. The 23-year-old is a technically-gifted player who is always driving forward with the ball, looking to get past his marker and create chances for his teammates.

He has proven his versatility by delivering the goods consistently for Villa, impressing with his uncompromised work-rate on and off the ball and contributing to the build-up play in the midfield.

Grealish’s movement is quite dangerous as he has the tendency to arrive late in the box and score goals. He is an elegant operator of the ball and uses his passing skills and vision to split open tightest of defences.

Verdict

The Aston Villa ace has surely done enough to tempt Tottenham into rekindling their interest. Grealish’s creativity, energy and dynamism in the final third could be the difference against well-drilled sides and with huge potential to get even better, Pochettino shouldn’t hesitate to splash the cash on him this summer.
