Tottenham Opinion: Why Renato Sanches will be a perfect fit for Spurs?

Renato Sanches has confirmed that he wants to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season in search of more playing time.

The Portuguese, 21, joined Bayern from Benfica in 2016 and was widely regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young talents at the time. He won the 2016 Golden Boy award and was part of the Portugal squad that won the 2016 UEFA European Championship under the tutelage of Fernando Santos.

Renato Sanches was loaned out to Swansea City last season but he failed to impress in the Premier League, as the club suffered relegation. He returned to Bayern in July 2018 after a failed season on loan with Swansea but has only made six starts in all competitions for manager Niko Kovac’s side. In fact, the youngster has made just 16 appearances in the Bundesliga this term.

With the Portuguese midfielder making it clear that he wants to leave Bayern in search of regular game, Tottenham should reignite their interest in him.

Back in 2017, a report from the Independent claimed that Tottenham were interested in signing Renato Sanches. A move didn’t materialise and the Portugal international joined Swansea on loan, instead. However, Tottenham must take advantage of the youngster’s lack of game time at Bayern and make an attempt to sign him in the summer.

Sanches needs a fresh start in his career and a move to Tottenham could help him reignite his career that has stuttered after the 2016 UEFA European Championship. Spurs didn’t bring in a replacement for Mousa Dembele, who left the club for China in the January transfer window. In fact, they didn’t sign a single player in the past two transfer windows and come the end of this season that needs to change.

Mauricio Pochettino needs to invest heavily over the summer to make them genuine title challengers next season. He needs to address every single area of the pitch but his priority must be to sign a midfielder to fill the void left by Dembele. Signing Sanches, thus, makes complete sense for the north Londoners.

In Sanches, Tottenham would get a young, talented and exciting prospect, who has a sky-high potential in himself and can grow into a valuable asset for any team. The Portuguese is a classy box-to-box midfielder, known for his passing range, tenacity and creativity. A top tackler, he boasts of a wonderful engine that helps him run constantly for the entire game.

Verdict

Sanches has all of the attributes needed to be a success in the Premier League, and despite his underwhelming loan spell with Swansea City, a fresh start with Spurs might be just what he needs at the moment.
