Why Tottenham should make a swoop for Lamare Bogarde
According to a report from Football Insider (h/t BBC Sport), Tottenham Hotspur have scouted Feyenoord’s teenage midfielder Lamare Bogarde and are keen on signing the midfielder in the summer.
Bogarde has been with the Feyenoord youth academy since 2011. The 16-year-old broke into the Dutch outfit’s U17 outfit this season and has made a great impression. So far, the midfielder has featured on 19 occasions, bagging two goals and setting up four in the process.
The teenager also made his debut for the Netherlands U16 side earlier this year, featuring twice for the side. The report states that along with Tottenham, many other European clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Juventus are also monitoring Bogarde’s progress at Tottenham.
It has been a difficult campaign for Tottenham. Having started poorly, the North London outfit were forced to sack Mauricio Pochettino in November last year. Jose Mourinho took over the reins at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and was able to improve the club’s fortunes in the early days but their form had been on a downslide again prior to the suspension of the league due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Given the state of affairs, Tottenham need new signings in the summer. The lack of depth in the attack when Harry Kane and Son Heung-min were sidelined was there for everyone to see. Moreover, the defence has also struggled to perform, due to which Mourinho should look to bolster his ranks at the back as well.
While there will be restructuring needed at the first-team level, Tottenham should also look to bolster their youth ranks with an eye on the future. Investing in young talents is always a great move for clubs who don’t have endless cash reserves.
At a time when the finances of all clubs are likely to be impacted due to the coronavirus crisis, it would be smart for Spurs to invest in the future. And Bogarde would fit into that scheme of things.

At 16, the midfielder still has a long way to go to become a first-team regular. But the fact that the likes of Dortmund, Juventus and AC Milan are also monitoring him provides a hint of the potential that the Feyenoord starlet possesses.
Verdict
Bogarde is still a raw talent with great potential and while the midfielder might not walk into the first-team right away at Tottenham, investing in the youngster would allow the club to reap great rewards in the future. The North London outfit should do everything to beat the competition for the signing of the Feyenoord youngster in the summer.
