Tottenham Hotspur Opinions: 3 strikers Spurs can sign to cover for Kane

Tottenham’s development from being a lower-half or mid-table club into one of the division’s top clubs happened rapidly. Although it was a gradual process internally, the way in which they achieved it was commendable indeed.

Without placing too much stress on buying players from the transfer market, the Spurs chiefs set about doing efficient business while promoting as many academy players into the ranks as possible. While there have been multiple successes stories, none have had as much effect as Harry Kane.

Always touted to be a superstar at Spurs, the Premier League never really know what they were getting into when he made his debut for the North-London club. Since then though, there’s been no stopping him and he has transformed himself into one of the best strikers in the world, if not the best.

His contribution, be it in terms of goals or build-up play, are exceptional while his ability on the ball has never been questioned. He has scored 17 goals for Spurs from his 26 league appearances and also has 6 assists to his name.

When he suffered an injury earlier in the campaign, Fernando Llorente was the man tasked with replacing him in the team but unfortunately for them, the Spaniard just didn’t click and the need for another option become clear as day. Here are 3 strikers that Mauricio Pochettino should be considering in the summer:

Duvan Zapata

A player with very similar numbers to Kane this season, Zapata has been scoring goals for fun in Serie A for Atalanta who he joined on loan from Sampdoria earlier in the summer.

With 17 goals to his name, his goalscoring abilities needn’t be questioned and his strength and physical style of play could be the variation that Pochettino needs to finally break the Premier League puzzle.

Kevin Volland

The German international forward in 26 now but is still scoring at a decent rate for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga having notched up an impressive 11 goals and 7 assists from his 25 league games this season.

A Leverkusen player since 2016, the German’s ability to be in the right place at the right time has set him apart this season while his ability to time forward runs to perfection will suit Spurs’ attacking tactics as well.

Michy Batshuayi

The Chelsea man is currently on loan at Crystal Palace after returning from his terrible spell at Valencia where he scored just once in 15 league appearances. Since moving to Selhurst Park though, he has scored 2 in 6 games and that shows his ability to play in the Premier League.

Chelsea’s willingness to loan him out to a mid-table club rather than use his talents suggests that his days in a Chelsea shirt could be numbered and this summer can be the perfect opportunity for Spurs to pounce and get their man.
