Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Southampton striker Danny Ings, according to Daily Star.
The in-form Englishman has scored 15 goals in just 23 games across all competitions this campaign and is doing well leading the St. Mary’s frontline. Spurs have seen his first-hand quality this season, as he’s scored both home and away against them while tormenting the defence.
With 94 total appearances in the Premier League in his time with the likes of Burnley, Liverpool and Southampton, Ings represents a more sure-fire option for Spurs as they hunt for a new striker. Despite it only being just past the half-way point of the campaign, the 27-year-old has already bettered his goal tally from any other year in the top-flight.
England captain Kane has been ruled out until March with a hamstring injury, after limping off the field of play against Southampton which saw Ings score the only goal of the game. Following the exit of Fernando Llorente in the summer, Spurs lack a recognized senior striker. Troy Parrott is still 17, while Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura are better used out wide.
Tottenham do not have another out-and-out striker in their squad aside from Kane and it makes sense that they would be looking at other options this month. Ings has been great for the Saints and scored over half of their goals in the league.
Southampton signed Ings in the summer of 2018 from Liverpool for a fee of £20million and it is believed that the Saints are paying Ings a whopping £75,000-a-week.

Ings has rediscovered his top form this campaign at Southampton and found an extra yard of pace, which has helped him score goals for fun of late. Spurs might find it a much safer bet by investing in a proven Premier League player to cover Kane’s void but whether they can pull off a deal remains to be seen.
Ings is capable of walking straight into Mourinho’s team right now but in the long-term, he might have to play second fiddle to Kane.
