Tottenham Hotspur Opinion: Spurs must secure Sean Longstaff signing
According to recent reports from the Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur have been keeping tabs on a multitude of stars under the age of 23, including the highly-rated likes of Jack Grealish, Kieran Tierney and even Norwich City wing-back Max Aarons.
The report is suggesting that another one of the players within Mauricio Pochettino’s sights for next season is Newcastle United’s mid-season breakout midfield star Sean Longstaff, who has really come into the fore at St.James’ Park this season.
Almost an unknown quantity till about a few years ago, Longstaff is a product of the Newcastle United academy. He’s had to work his way up the ranks and certainly hasn’t been granted any opportunities that the 21-year-old didn’t already deserve.
Born in the North Shields in 1997, Sean David Longstaff has always been an avid football fan and began his youth career with the North Shields Juniors from where he was scouted and drafted in by the Magpies.
Since joining the Toon in 2015, he’s had to work really hard to make a name for himself in what is a fairly stacked squad in terms of midfield depth. Once he was given his chance though, it has been almost impossible to remove him from the position that he’s made his own.
He spent loan spells and Blackpool and Kilmarnock which have provided him with some good experience of the physical nature of the English game. It was injuries that forced Rafa Benitez to play the Longstaff card midway through the season.
He’s played 9 fixtures for the Magpies so far and since coming into the side, has been untouchable. He has shown excellent composure for a youngster and has contributed greatly to the good turn of form that Newcastle have showed in recent weeks.
In the absence of key names, he formed an excellent partnership with Issac Hayden which signifies his quality. Considering that Spurs went through a similar injury crisis midway through the season, it only makes sense to look for reinforcements and they needn’t look past Longstaff.
The youngster has all the attributes to sot right into the Spurs midfield and if partnered with Harry Winks in the centre of the park, they could form an excellent alliance as their styles would certainly complement each other. His addition would also add to the depth at Spurs, which has been one of their main issues.

Considering that Moussa Dembele departed earlier in the campaign, added to the fact that they had to turn to 18-year-old Oliver Skipp to complete their side at one point in this season, this move is a no-brainer for Spurs who will be securing a talent who has huge potential who will also serve an immediate purpose.
