Two players Tottenham Hotspur need to sign to win the Premier League
Tottenham Hotspur are finally within reach of a potential title race and they do have a comparatively good chance of winning. But while Liverpool are in the lead, Spurs need to find their footing once again and ensure that they don’t spoil any chance of them winning a major league honour for the first time since the Premier League began.
Mauricio Pochettino wasn’t allowed to spend over the summer as the club spent most of his transfer fee on stadium repairs and various other issues with White Hart Lane. However, despite that, there is a chance that the club could splurge a little to reinforce their squad over the winter window with a few players shortlisted.
#2 Adrien Rabiot
A proven midfielder at the highest level of football, Rabiot’s status at PSG has finally been confirmed with the Frenchman set to leave once his current deal with the club expires in June of 2019. That means that the January window will allow him to negotiate with any club outside the Ligue 1 for a potential move and he would be perfect for Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham
Spurs need someone who can control their midfield and dictate play. With Moussa Dembele struggling to replicate his previous season’s form and Moussa Sissoko still adapting to Pochettino’s style of play, bringing in Rabiot adds a brilliant central midfielder. Not only can the 23-year-old dictate play, but his eye for a pass is incredible and the new UEFA rules mean that he can play in the Champions League.
But what could be a roadblock is the fact that Barcelona (h/t Sky Sports), Real Madrid, Juventus and many others (h/t Calciomercato) are interested in his signature.
#1 Jack Grealish
The Aston Villa star is similar to Eden Hazard and it’s no surprise why, given his talent. Only 23, Grealish has already made a tremendous impact for the Championship side and is among their best players. While the stats don’t do him justice, Grealish has managed to produce 7 goals and assists in what has been his biggest injury-ravaged year since his debut.
However, Tottenham’s interest in the Englishman was well noted over the summer with a move coming close before falling off the radar (h/t Sky Sports). But even now, Spurs should continue scouting the 23-year-old and a January move could do both sides well, given Aston Villa’s financial issues.
While Pochettino needs an influx of attacking depth to provide cover for Son Heung-Min while he is on duty for South Korea, the Champions League could highlight the depth issues that Spurs do have.
