McGrady did not receive much playing time in his rookie season but broke out alongside teammate, Vince Carter into as a star from the next. They became a power duo on the court, helping the Raptors to their first playoff appearance after a 45-37 win season.
Unfortunately, the duo did not last as McGrady wanted more star power and switched to Orlando Magic. He won the scoring title in 2003 and then once again the year after. But friction with general manager, John Weisbrod saw McGrady get traded to the Houston Rockets as player of an eight-player deal. In December of 2004, the former shooting guard had one of the most iconic moments in NBA history, scoring 13 points in the final 35 seconds, securing a comeback victory over San Antonio.
McGrady biggest enemy during his career was his health as injuries led him into an early decline. He missed 47 games in the consecutive season and was traded to the Knicks in 2010 after failing to meet fan expectations. He was unable to match his peak performance standards in New York and then in Atalanta. He did make a finals appearance with the Spurs in 2013, eventually losing in seven games after which he retired.
McGrady featured in seven All-Star games and seven All-NBA teams. He also won the Most Improve Player award in 2001.
