Almost a year since Triller transitioned from a content creation platform to a combat sports promotion, the company has been trying it’s level best to revolutionize the combat sports. Triller’s journey in combat sports was started with last year and they have continued their efforts for making a unique show for the fans.
Triller came up with a unique crossover event called Triad Combat. The Triad Combat will mix the elements from boxing and MMA. Before understanding the ruleset of the event, let’s have a look at some of the stars that will feature on the event.
The first Triad Combat will feature multiple fighters who have competed in either MMA or boxing. The main event will feature the former UFC champion Frank Mir and former boxing heavyweight champion Kubrat Pulev. Pulev is one of the biggest stars in heavyweight boxing, having only lost twice in his pro career. His losses came against Wladmir Kitschko and Anthony Joshua.
Frank Mir has not competed in MMA since 2019, however, he made his boxing debut earlier this year. The undercard also includes some of the former UFC stars with the likes of Mike Perry and Matt Mitrione and more. Apart from such amazing fights, the event will also feature a musical performance by the legendary group Metallica. The first ever event is scheduled for November 27th.
What are the rules for Triad Combat event?
As mentioned earlier, the event will mix up the basic elements of MMA and boxing to create a fusion. The aim for this event is to level the playing field for crossover events like these and the ring will be specially designed triangular shaped ring. Moreover, the fighters will be using crossover gloves.
As far as the rules are concerned, holding, and grabbing is permitted. Basically, every clinch position and every punch is permitted. However, some of the major elements of MMA like takedowns, kicking, elbows, submissions are not allowed.
MMA fighters will certainly struggle to hold their kicks while in a favorable clinch position. As far as the boxers are concerned they can be troubled with holding as they are not used to holding in pro boxing matches.
With Triad Combat, Triller will look forward to create an event like no other. After their recent failure in the world of boxing, the company is still optimistic to change the fight game. Triller was initially setting up the highly anticipated lightweight boxing championship match between George Kambosos and Teofimo Lopez.
However, Matchroom Boxing ended up buying the fight because of Triller’s constant failure to make the fight happen. The Triad Combat will present itself as a second chance for the company to stay in the fight game. It will be interesting to see how the first Triad Combat event does.
