Triple H and Vince McMahon had some advice for Kevin Owens during Universal Champion run
Speaking to talkSPORT’s Alex McCarthy (h/t Wrestling Inc.), WWE Superstar Kevin Owens has revealed that Triple H and Vince McMahon gave him crucial advice during his run as the Universal Champion.
Owens’ only run as the Universal Champion came about in 2016 when he won the vacant title after Finn Balor had injured his shoulder.
KO held the title for around six months before dropping to WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg at the Fastlane PPV in March 2017.
Opening up on his reign, Owens has now revealed that he was not enjoying his run as the Universal Champion as much as he should.
“Back then I didn’t take the time to enjoy any of it. I was just too focused on trying to make it good, make it better, make it as good as it can be and I really, really didn’t enjoy it the way I should have.”
Owens then went on to reveal that head honcho Vince McMahon as well as Triple H pointed out the same to him, as did Shawn Michaels as well as his family members, advising him to cherish and relish the run.
“My wife was instrumental in making me realize that,” Owens said. “My parents as well, even guys like Shawn Michaels, Triple H and even Vince McMahon himself, they’ve all told me that it seemed like I forgot to enjoy this part of things and if you’re not going to enjoy being the champion, then what are you going to enjoy in this industry?”
Kevin Owens then went on to add that he would love to get another shot as the Universal Champion so that he can correct the mistakes of the past.
“I’d love to be able to get back there just so I can enjoy it properly, but we’ll see. All I can do is do my best to stay in that story and hopefully I get to take it from Roman or somebody else in the future.”
Owens did get a shot at the Universal Championship, when he was involved in a feud with the reigning champion Roman Reigns during around the turn of the year. However, KO could not best the “Head of the Table”.
It will be interesting to see if he is inserted into the title programme against the “Tribal Chief” again in the near future.
