According to Eurosport (h/t Mirror), Chelsea could be set to revive their interest in Marquinhos. The Blues were linked to him way back in 2015 and could now be tempted to bring him in again to reunite him with new boss Thomas Tuchel. The Brazilian was one of Tuchel’s most trusted charges during their time together at PSG.
The trigger was finally pulled on Frank Lampard as he joined the huge list of managers to be sacked by Roman Abramovich. Nonetheless, Thomas Tuchel was hired in the immediate aftermath to control the crisis at hand.
One of the problems that Tuchel needs to look at is the defence, which previously looked solid but is now leaking goals and at a rapid rate. The duo of Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva was a good one but it’s clear that they need something more than that. Silva is ageing and a replacement may be necessary sooner than later.
We saw how Zouma was shelved and the likes of Azpilicueta and Rudiger were brought in to make a three-man backline. It is clear that another solid defender is needed at the club to reinforce the defence.
It’s not surprising that Chelsea have been linked to Marquinhos since Tuchel has taken over. The Brazilian was the third most used player by the German manager during his spell in Paris.
Not only is the 26-year-old adept at playing in defence, but he has also been often used as a defensive midfielder. His ball-playing skills are one to watch and that’s what makes him a viable option in midfield. Marquinhos also has the uncanny ability to throw himself forward and get vital goals for his side.
Marquinhos looks like a huge upgrade on the current defensive players Tuchel has at his disposal. There will also be the possibility of linking up with former PSG man Thiago Silva.
Overall, this transfer looks like a huge win for Chelsea provided they complete it. Thomas Tuchel is already familiar with his strengths and would have no issues accommodating him into the side.
