Twitter overflowed with posts after Dominic Thiem defeated Alexander Zverev to reach the Australian Open final
Twitter was flooded with posts after a sensational Australian Open semi-final between Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev at the Rod Laver Arena on Friday.
In a battle between two good friends, it was the Austrian Thiem who emerged on top after he defeated the German 3-6, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6 in a tight encounter to book a place in the finals.
Thiem will next meet third seed Novak Djokovic, who beat Swiss maestro Roger Federer in the previous semi-final.
Meanwhile, tennis fans from across the globe took on to twitter in numbers after the thrilling encounter between two who are seen as potential future stars of the sport.
This would be Thiem’s first-ever final appearance at the Australian Open with his previous best being a fourth-round exit back in 2018.
Meanwhile, Zverev’s wait for a maiden Grand Slam final still continues as he bowed out of the tournament after Thiem sprung from behind to emerge the eventual winner.

A visibly disappointed Zverev was however in support of his friend as he said, “I think he has a chance, He is playing the best tennis of his life,” when asked about his chances of winning the final.
Slight statistical advantage for Djokovic
Serbian Djokovic has a slight 6-4 advantage over his younger opponent Thiem. However, the two of them have never met each other before in a Slam event and it could be really interesting to see who comes on top finally.
