Diego Schwartzman sails through to the next round of the Barcelona Open with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mackenzie McDonald
Diego Schwartzman put up a stellar show at Pista Rafa Nadal to secure a convincing straight-sets win against McDonald. The Argentine is seeded sixth in the tournament and definitely justified his seeding with this performance. Schwartzman has shown commendable promise this year putting a streak of consistent performances over the last few events. The highlight of his season so far is certainly the final appearance at the Rio ATP 500 tournament earlier this year.
Schwartzman is presently placed 16th in the ATP rankings. The Argentine star has played some really good tennis this year. He didn’t start well at the Australian Open but made it to the semi-finals of the next tournament, the Cordoba Open. His next event was the Argentina Open on his home turf. Schwartzman played well to make it to the finals but lost to the top seed Casper Ruud. He followed it up with another final appearance, this time at the Rio Open. Schwartzman didn’t do quite well in the Sunshine Double but played well in the recently concluded Monte Carlo Masters to make it to the quarter-finals of the ATP 1000 tournament.
Schwartzman has certainly grabbed the attention of the tennis community with his consistent streak of performances this season. Fans took to Twitter to praise his fearless and agressive style of play.
