Two missed targets Leeds United must sign in January
Leeds United have gotten their season off to an excellent start under new manager Marcelo Bielsa. The West Yorkshire outfit sit at the top of the EFL Championship table after six games and are unbeaten in the league.
Bielsa has brought in his trademark style of football and there is a lot of positivity surrounding Elland Road. And the fact that he won the Manager of the Month award for August, while striker Kemar Roofe was named the Player of the Month, shows the kind of start they have made.
However, there are still 40 games left to be played in the Championship and they must sustain this form in order to achieve promotion back to the Premier League.
To that end, a few signings in the January transfer window will be needed, considering how long and arduous the campaign can be. And here are two players Leeds should target in the winter window after failing to sign them in the summer.
Mbaye Diagne (Kasimpasa)
The Senegalese striker was high on the Whites’ shopping list in the summer but a move failed to materialize due to work permit issues (h/t Turkish-Football).
Leeds did boost up their attack with the arrival of Patrick Bamford in the summer window. But, adding another source of goals would certainly help them boost their chances of securing promotion to the top-flight. And Diagne could be the perfect addition to provide that push in the second half of the term.
The 26-year-old has been firing on all cylinders in the new campaign, bagging six goals in just four appearances in the Turkish top-flight. The striker is still keen on a move to England (h/t Turkish-Football) and Leeds must make a move in January and snap him up.
Taras Romanczuk (Jagiellonia Bialystok)
The Whites submitted a £1.2 million bid for the Polish midfielder in the summer but the move clearly did not materialize (h/t Daily Mail). And given his quality, Leeds must make another attempt to land him when the transfer window reopens in four months’ time.
The 26-year-old has been with Jagiellonia since 2014 and has racked up 152 appearances for the Polish top-tier club, netting 21 goals in the process and setting up 12 more. Primarily used as a defensive anchor in the middle of the park, Romanczuk has chipped in with three goals and two assists in 11 games in the ongoing campaign, bringing into focus his all-around capabilities.

He may not be the biggest of names but the Poland international’s career has been on the rise in recent years and his addition will provide Leeds with quality and depth in the midfield area.
