Two Premier League clubs where Max Allegri could be a good fit

According to Evening Standard, Max Allegri is on the lookout for a Premier League job. The former Juventus manager has been off management since leaving Juve in 2019. A serial winner with Juventus, he was probably one of their best managers in history (source – The Guardian). He has been linked to Manchester United and Arsenal in the past with interest in him going a long way back.

Allegri was full of praise for English football and said that he wanted a more sophisticated and tactical challenge. He also said that he admired the work Jurgen Klopp has done at Liverpool. Below we take a look at the two Premier League sides where Max Allegri will be a good fit.

1. Manchester United

It takes a split second to change opinions on whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should continue as Manchester United manager or be sacked. It has been quite the roller coaster journey in the last two years with moments of brilliance peppered with a touch of abysmal. Nevertheless, one can’t say that Solskjaer hasn’t done good work in these two years.

In his first full season, he took the club to a 3rd-place league finish and reached 3 semi-finals. All of that while working with a rather seemingly disjointed group of players. However, most would agree that Solskjaer has his tactical shortcomings, which often pops out in games where United aren’t allowed the time and space to play their trademark counter-attacking football.

They need a much better tactician who can shift the dynamics of the game with his knowledge. Max Allegri is one of the finest tacticians of the modern game. While his style of play may not be as rip roaring as the fans are used to, it is by all means effective. Provided United do end up sacking the former player, Allegri should be right among the top names to take his place.

2. Arsenal

It’s hard to point out what exactly is wrong with Arsenal currently. One moment they are beating the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City to win domestic trophies, the other they are scrambling to get into the top half of the Premier League table.

Slowly but surely, it is becoming hard to back Mikel Arteta, with results not going in their favor. His last season’s exploits might not buy him much time as Arsenal look like a team that are taking one step forward and two backwards. He has taken some questionable decisions when it comes to tactics and team selection which has directly impacted the club.

The Gunners could do with an experienced manager like Allegri who has won so many trophies in his career. One can say that Unai Emery was also a serial winner and it did not work out.

However, Allegri is a much more adept manager who has the know-how to handle big players at big clubs. Yes, Arteta will be given time before the trigger might be pulled eventually. When, rather than if, that happens, Allegri should be the name they turn to.
