Claude Puel has barely put a foot wrong since taking over as Leicester City’s manager last season. The Foxes were in danger of relegation when the Frenchman took over but Leicester were able to get back to winning ways under his stewardship and rejuvenated their campaign to finish 9th.
Well, that was the story of the last term but it has hardly been anything different this season. Puel has been particular about his transfers and has given the young players plenty of opportunities to flourish at the club with regular first-team action.
And the results have been positive so far. Leicester was arguably the better team in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on opening day and fought back with consecutive victories over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton.
Their loss to Liverpool was rather unfortunate but for the most part, Leicester have made a decent start to the new campaign. Currently, Puel has a decent squad at his disposal with a blend of youth and experience but he should add more to that.
Here are two players Leicester could sign in January.
At 20, Kluivert has already shown signs of becoming one of the best winger-cum-forwards in the coming years.
A product of the Ajax youth academy, Kluivert made his professional debut for the club in 2016 and rose to prominence in the previous season, where he scored 10 goals in the Eredivisie.
Primarily a left-winger by trade, the 20-year-old is equally capable of playing on the right and at the centre of the attacking third. A player defined by electric pace and mesmerizing dribbling skills, Kluivert has an extremely cool head on his shoulders for his age and seldom loses his composure at critical moments.
With his pace, flair and athleticism, he is always a counter-attacking threat. Given that the youngster joined Roma this summer, Leicester would have to make a big offer to sign the Dutch prodigy. However, considering his talent, Kluivert could make a lot of difference for the team.
The 24-year-old Portuguese right-back currently plays for Juventus and he should be a great addition to Leicester City’s squad.
Leicester have Ben Chilwell and Christian Fuchs as options for the left-back position but Puel has often utilized Daniel Amartey as a makeshift right-back. The Ghanaian hasn’t been outrightly poor at an unfamiliar position but he hasn’t played to his potential.
Joao Cancelo, who joined Juventus for a fee of £35.5m, is good with his technique and has all the qualities of a modern-day full-back. While he is composed defensively and has the ability to make neat tackles at key moments, the Portuguese is equally capable of making an impact offensively.
With Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho, Diogo Jota and Ruben Neves in the Premier League, Cancelo could be the next Portuguese footballer to ply his trade in England.
