Two players Liverpool could sign instead of Adrien Rabiot

As The Mirror puts it down, Liverpool have stopped pursuing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot and Jurgen Klopp will look at other options to bolster his squad in January. According to Football Italia, Liverpool are content with the midfield options at their disposal and have pulled themselves out of the race to land the talented Frenchman.

Jurgen Klopp spent a lot of money this summer, securing the services of Fabinho, Naby Keita and Alisson Becker. While Keita has hit the ground running and has forced Jordan Henderson to start from the bench in the Premier League, Fabinho is yet to make his debut for the Reds. Alisson has looked solid between the sticks for Liverpool and has solved the club’s goalkeeping woes as well.

But here are two other options Klopp should consider if he wants to add more midfielders to enhance his squad depth.

1. William Carvalho

The 26-year-old midfielder currently plies his trade for Real Betis after moving to the La Liga from Sporting Lisbon this summer.

A part of the Portugal team that won the 2016 UEFA Euro Cup, Carvalho was instrumental in his nation’s march to European glory. Although the Portuguese international is primarily a defensive midfielder by trade, he could be a perfect replacement for Adrien Rabiot.

Standing at 6ft 3 inches with a burly and sinewy structure, the 26-year-old could be the ideal midfield general for Liverpool. Not only is he good in the air and adept at winning aerial duels, Carvalho’s physical strength makes him a good fit for the central midfield role. In fact, he is rarely dominated by the opposition.

His range of passing allows him to dictate the tempo of the midfield. Furthermore, Carvalho is excellent at reading the game and excels with his tackles and interceptions in the centre of the park.

These attributes make him a player tailor-made for the Premier League and Jurgen Klopp should consider making a bid for the Portuguese international in January.

2. Ruben Neves

Daily Mail has claimed that the likes of Manchester United are Manchester City are embroiled in a £60million battle for the 21-year-old Portuguese starlet. However, Liverpool should try to take advantage of the situation and lure the youngster to Anfield.

Unlike William Carvalho, Ruben Neves is a player defined by technical brilliance, grace and elegance. His technical superiority allows him to receive the ball with a wonderful first touch, following which he comfortably with the ball at his feet. A set-piece specialist, Neves is adept at curling the ball into the top corner from free-kicks outside the box.

Neves can play either as a central midfielder or a central defensive midfielder. His range of passing allows him to distribute the ball effectively and switch the play from his deep position. He often uses his sharpness and presence of mind to good effect, particularly when it comes to winning the ball.
