World No.1 Novak Djokovic is off to a flying start this season and could continue that by breaking a couple of records.
The Serbian has not suffered a single loss and is now 13-0 up after his ATP Cup triumph in January and a record 8thAustralian Open title recently.
The Serbian has 17 Grand Slam titles and is behind two greats – Roger Federer (20) and Rafael Nadal (19).
Djokovic is just 9 weeks away breaking Pete Sampras’s record of 286 weeks as No.1. The Serb is in his 277th week as the ATP World No.1.
The second record and that which is even more impressive is that if Djokovic manages to stay on top all the way until the US Open.
The Serbian would end up tying with Roger Federer’s all-time record of 310 weeks.
If it happens, Djokovic shall tie with the Swiss maestro on September 28th and overtake him on October 5th.
Should Djokovic manage to finish the year as the top-ranked player then he will join Pete Sampras as the second player to ever finish six ATP seasons as the ATP’s year-end No.1.
There is one record that Djokovic may not be able to break this year. It is none other than Roger Federer’s record of 237 consecutive weeks as No.1 male player.
This seems tough at the moment as Djokovic’s maximum time at the top consecutively has been 122 weeks. That was achieved from July 7, 2014 to November 6, 2016.
