Boxing heavyweight champion Tyson Fury spoke some words of encouragement for his former training partner Tom Aspinall ahead of his main event duties at UFC London
UFC London is just a few days away, and support has started to stream in from all parts of the country for their hometown fighters. Joining the torrent of upliftment is the heavyweight boxing champion of the world, Tyson Fury who has trained with Tom Aspinall previously.
Aspinall is set to face Alexander Volkov at the main event of UFC London. The young martial artist had trained with the ‘Gypsy King’ back when he was 20 years old for almost two years. He has even credited Fury on multiple occasions for shaping him into the fighter that he is today.
It was beyond question that Fury would root for his training partner and send out his words of wisdom and encouragement to the young lad. He posted a video of him saying, “I just want to wish my buddy Tom Aspinall all the best in his upcoming UFC heavyweight fight. Good luck Tom, do the business. Smash his face in! Get up there, my boy, all the way to the motherf**king bank, man.”
Tom Aspinall credits Tyson Fury for his calm bearing leading up to UFC London
Tom Aspinall believes that his main event fight against Alexander Volkov will be ‘the start of him running things’ in the heavyweight division. Aspinall is widely regarded by many as the next big thing in the heavyweight division and forecasted by Bisping to become a champion one day.
The crowd will undoubtedly roar for their native lad, and a fight of such magnitude can be a little overwhelming for many. Not for Aspinall, who has trained with the best heavyweight fighter in the world, Tyson Fury several times. He has even credited ‘The Gypsy King’ for taking him under his wings and shaping him into the fighter he is today.
“I learned a lot, obviously technically, but really just seeing his approach and how much he does enjoy it and not taking it too seriously … that kind of rubbed off on me a little bit,” he said.
“Now that training’s getting a little bit harder and I’m getting a little bit more tired, I’m just trying to hold on to just enjoying it and trying to get back to just enjoying it and flowing with my techniques as opposed to forcing stuff.
“My outlook on my sport changed a lot with being around someone like him who’s at the top of his game. My outlook on everything changed, big time.”
