Israel Adesanya took Marvin Vettori on his usual title-defense ride in the main event of UFC 263
Once again Israel Adesanya proved why he is the reigning king of the middleweight division. ‘The Last Stylebender’ was untouchable in his bout against Marvin Vettori.
Despite numerous takedown and submission attempts, the ‘Italian Dream’ couldn’t find that killer blow to see off Adesanya.
A patient, slick and slithery Adesanya gave Vettori no chance to even surpass him in a single round.
The final scores on all the three judges’ scorecard read 50-45, even as a dejected Vettori looked on during the result announcement.
A legion of MMA pros and fans reacted to Adesanya putting on a clinic against Vettori:
Adesanya called out number one middleweight contender Whittaker, whom he had already beaten at UFC 243. ‘The Last Stylebender’ expressed his desire to run it back with the Australian, but under one condition – The fight must be in Izzy’s hometown, Auckland.
At the post-fight interview Izzy told Joe Rogan:
“My arch nemesis…What’s his name? Whittaker, Bobby Knuckles…I don’t know what the f*ck is gonna happen with this whole COVID sh*t. We need to run that back in Auckland. We need to run that back in my territory this time. I’ll tell you when it is. You don’t get to decide, I get to decide.”
Following Adesanya’s callout, Whittaker quickly responded on Twitter. ‘The Reaper’ tweeted:
“Rest up, see you soon.”
Since his loss to Adesanya, Whittaker is 2-0 up. He beat Darren Till in 2020, and then followed it up with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Kelvin Gastelum, in April, this year.
