Daniel Cormier in the press conference went on to say that the main event fight between Adesanya and Whittaker had bad judges.
Daniel Cormier was on the broadcast for the UFC 271 pay-per-view event. The middleweight championship fight saw both Adesanya and Whittaker closely competing with each other. The champion went on to defend his title by unanimous decision.
There have been mixed reactions among the UFC fraternity on whom should have been judged as the winner. Cormier however isn’t against the decision that was in favour of Israel Adesanya in UFC 271.
The reason for DC’s statement has a lot to do with how the fight was judged by each round. DC went on to meet Brendan Schaub and Mike Tyson, the day after the fight.
DC said:
“Izzy won the first round very cleanly. Second round, I thought Robert Whittaker could have won the round. Third round, Izzy won. Fourth round, Izzy won. Fifth round, Whittaker won, which was his best round. I thought it was 3-2, but the problem was the judges gave Rob round three. Bro, they got some bad judges.“
He went on to add:
“When I went in for the interview, I figured Izzy won but I just didn’t know by how much. I didn’t know if it was going to be 3-2 or 4-1. When the crowd reacted the way they did by booing, I thought ‘Wow, I must have been watching a different fight.”
I’ll see him once again:
Amidst all these, Israel Adesanya went on to defend his title once again to add another feather to his cap. Robert Whittaker on the other hand stated that he thought he had won the fight.
