One of the most anticipated PPV events of the 2022 UFC calendar is just a few days away. The event, UFC 273 is set to be headlined by a featherweight title fight between Alexander Volkanovski and The Korean Zombie. While Alexander Volkanovski fights for his quest to become the greatest featherweight fighter of all time, Zombie fights to bring home the first UFC gold to his nation Korea.
Volkanovski is coming of a gritty win against submission specialist Brian Ortega. The fight laid all doubts to rest about the legitimacy of the Aussie’s claim as a champion. Zombie on the other hand won his last fight against up and comer Dan Ige by unanimous decision, after loosing a unanimous decision fight to Volkanovski’s last opponent. Jung has been training with Henry Cejudo to brush up his grappling skills and devise a plan to dethrone Volkanovski.
The co-main event feature a bantamweight title rematch between Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan. In their first encounter, while Aljo had some initial success with his unorthodox lateral movements and creative offense, Yan gained momentum over the fight like he usually does, and began dominating Sterling. An illegal knee to a downed opponent would see Yan loosing the fight by DQ, and his belt switched hand to Sterling. The pair has since engaged on several Twitter tirades, and the rematch will be fueled with bad blood and vengeance.
The card also holds a featured bout between Gilbert Burns and Khamzat Chimaev in the welterweight division. While some believe that the Chechen born Swedish mixed martial artist will prove it once and for all that he’s a bonafide threat, others believe that Chimaev’s pride will be deflated by the Brazilian.
