Did Sean Strickland’s father try to kill his mom?
In a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Sean Strickland candidly shared a distressing chapter from his early life, shedding light on the tumultuous upbringing that has shaped his career as a professional fighter. Strickland, known for his controversial persona, delved into his traumatic childhood experiences and didn’t hold back when discussing various fighters on the UFC roster.
One particularly harrowing memory he recounted was the toxic relationship between his parents when he was in the third or fourth grade. He vividly described an unsettling night when a heated argument between his parents escalated dangerously. Fearing the worst, young Strickland decided to take refuge beneath the bed, even though it was infested with fleas due to their difficult circumstances.
As the situation spiraled out of control, Strickland was compelled to take action to protect his mother. He revealed that he grabbed his sister’s guitar and used it as a weapon, striking his father in a desperate bid to stop him from harming his mother. He then dialed the police, ultimately leading to his father’s arrest. Shockingly, Strickland expressed his disappointment as his mother chose to bail his father out of jail.
Throughout his appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Strickland shared stories that offered insights into his challenging upbringing and how it has influenced his perspective and personality as a fighter. These revelations painted a vivid picture of the adversity he faced and the resilience that has carried him to his current status as a middleweight contender in the UFC.
“One night, I’m probably like third or fourth grade and I went to go sleep in my mom’s room and my dad is like f*** that, they had a bad fight so I’m like laying out by the door trying not to you know and I’m like f*** this, I just don’t feel good about this tonight. So I like crawl under the bed and we had like dogs, because we were white trash, we had fleas everywhere so there’s like fleas and I’m hiding underneath the bed.”
“So my dad gets on top of my mum and he starts like f***ing strangling her right, and he’s like I’m gonna f***ing kill you tonight so me being a little kid I get up. The only thing I see is a guitar, my sister’s guitar. She’s still mad at me about it, I just grabbed the guitar and f***ing smack it over his head, grab the phone, call the cops and run up the hill. My mom that dumb b**** bails him out of jail.”
In an intense lead-up to UFC 293, Alexander Volkanovski is warning Sean Strickland that his trash-talking antics won’t spare him from the wrath of reigning middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. The anticipated title showdown is set for September 9 in a sold-out Qudos Bank Arena in Australia.
Volkanovski, a close friend and teammate of Adesanya, anticipates a fiery pre-fight buildup as Strickland is known for his provocative remarks. However, he firmly believes that Strickland’s verbal jabs will come back to haunt him once he steps inside the Octagon with ‘The Last Stylebender.’
“Obviously, Sean is gonna talk, Sean is gonna try and get under his skin,” Volkanovski commented on his YouTube channel. “So that’s gonna make it fun. But I feel Izzy is going to really, really put it on him. Especially with the talk that’s gonna happen. I think Sean Strickland is gonna definitely pay for some of the things he’s gonna say. Stylistically, I feel like he’s definitely gonna get hurt.”
While Strickland is known for his striking, he may attempt to showcase his grappling skills against Adesanya, a move that could backfire, according to the champion. Adesanya, who has never submitted an opponent in his career, believes he’s evolving in his grappling abilities and is confident in his ability to finish fights. Whether it’s a submission or his lethal striking, fans can expect fireworks when these two warriors collide at UFC 293.
