Number 1 ranked lightweight contender Dustin Poirier is open to a fight against Nate Diaz, irrespective of the weight class
Dustin Poirier is high on confidence after he became the first man to defeat Conor McGregor twice, knock him out for the first time, hand him his first-ever two-fight skid.
He recently beat McGregor at UFC 264, which momentarily settled their rivalry. Poirier is now 2-1 up. He will soon be taking on Charles Oliveira for the lightweight title.
Elsewhere, Nate Diaz who last fought at UFC 263, called out Poirier on Twitter for a middleweight clash.
He wrote: “185lbs, pull-up.”
A confident and ready Poirier replied: “I’d touch you up at any weight.”
Diaz, last fought Leon Edwards at UFC 263. He had made a comeback to the promotion after almost 2 years. Although he lost the match, ‘The Stockton Slugger’ was just seconds away from turning around the whole fight in just a single minute.
On the 3rd of August in 2018, it was confirmed that Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz would be fighting at UFC 230, on the 3rd of November, 2018.
The fight was supposed to co-headline the event headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Derrick Lewis and Daniel Cormier.
However, just three weeks before the fight, on the 10th of October, Poirier pulled out of the fight due to an injury.
In the very next fight, Poirier won the interim lightweight title. He beat Max Holloway at UFC 236 to achieve the distinction.
