Israel Adesanya vs Jan Blachowicz finally has a date
Dana White has confirmed a date for Israel Adesanya vs Jan Blachowicz which takes place for the UFC light heavyweight title.
White told ESPN on Wednesday that the title fight will take at UFC 259 on March 6th, 2021. This will be a chance for Adesanya to capture his second belt as he looks for a new division to conquer after conquering the middleweight class.
The Last Stylebender beat Robert Whittaker to unify the middleweight championship in 2019 and has been unstoppable ever since. He has defended the belt twice, against Yoel Romero and Paulo Costa.
Blachowicz, on the other hand, won the light heavyweight title when Jon Jones vacated the belt. The latter ruled the division for the better part of a decade before deciding to make a move to heavyweight.
The Polish powerhouse brutally knocked out Dominick Reyes to capture the vacant belt, and now faces Adesanya in his first title defence.
Glover Teixeira is the #1 light heavyweight fighter in the rankings and has won 5 straight fights, including two in 2020.
His two wins this year include a TKO win over Anthony Smith and a win via rear-naked choke over Thiago Santos. Then why is he not fighting Blachowicz for the title?
We honestly don’t know. And fans on Twitter believe that the Brazilian deserves to go head-to-head against the Pole for the belt.
The Adesanya vs Blachowicz fight also has the potential to set up a fight against Jon Jones. ‘Bones’ was the reigning champ before vacating his belt and shared a heated social media rivalry with Adesanya.
