Max Holloway, the former featherweight champion, is known for his voluminous striking – he stands first in the list of highest significant strikes landed
Max Holloway is known for fending off any new threat cropping up in the featherweight division. A gatekeeper? Certainly not!
The former featherweight champion is a pinpoint striker, and to date, only Alexander Volkanovski (the current champ) remains the puzzle ‘Blessed’ has never been able to solve.
Recently, at UFC Kansas City, Holloway ended surging British featherweight Arnold Allen’s massive win streak, handing him his first loss in the UFC.
Allen was never able to keep up with the pace of the Hawaiian – on a night when Holloway’s counterstriking ability seemed to be top-notch.
Holloway ended up winning the fight by means of unanimous decision, and moving to 24 wins in his career.
The voluminous striker also reached a major landmark. He became the first-ever fighter in the UFC to land 3000 significant strikes.
With over 3000 significant strikes to his name, no fighter is within reach of Max Holloway. ‘Blessed‘ is over 1300 significant strikes ahead of the fighter at second place. After his win over Allen, Holloway currently has 3122 significant strikes.
The recently-retired Frankie Edgar, with 1801 significant strikes is in second place. He is followed by yet another retired fighter – Joanna Jędrzejczyk, alongside active women’s fighter Angela Hill, both have landed 1754 significant strikes.
To top it all, Holloway is just 31 years old. Given the Hawaiian doesn’t cut his career short, he certainly has a ton of significant strikes left in his tank.
Hard not to say, ‘The best is ‘Blessed.”
