Petr Yan had some choice words for Chito Vera, after the latter called him out for a fight in August
Riding high on the momentum from his victory against Rob Font at UFC Vegas 53, Ecuadorian fighter Marlon Chito Vera has been calling out for a fight that propels his career straight to a title shot. Vera has sighted a fight against Petr Yan as the perfect opportunity to catapult his legacy to the next level.
Petr Yan lost his rematch against undisputed bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling at UFC 273, and has been kept out of the public eye since then. Meanwhile, Chito Vera, who picked the biggest victory of his career against Font, has been calling out the Russian for a fight in August.
“We’re literally one win away from fighting for that belt, so I hope we get it done with Yan,” Vera said in an interview with The Schmo. “I think that’s the path to the belt, No. 1 contender. We kick his ass, and we move forward.”
He continued, “I stop Yan, and I get a title shot.”
He called out Yan for a fight in August on Twitter, ‘@PetrYanUFC bit* h out august 13th 😂’
Yan responded by saying, that he’ll need to wait till September or October for a shot at him. ‘ If you want to fight the best you can wait till September/October, but if you want to just to be ufc’s bit *h and fill out the spot in August you can fu * k off and don’t waste my time’
Marlon Chito Vera showed the world that he’s a force to be reckoned with in the bantamweight division at UFC Vegas 53. If it wasn’t enough that he’s evolved as a fighter, Vera showed up in the best shape of his life and delivered his peak performance against a top opponent like Font.
Although Font had some initial success with his supreme boxing skills, Vera found his range quickly, and immediately got creative with his striking by mixing things up. He hurt Font on several occasions with knees, elbows and kicks.
With this victory, Vera is in conversation amongst the elite of the division. In his very first main event for the company, the Ecuadorian delivered and how. The best in the world took notice, including the likes of Petr Yan.
Reacting to Vera’s performance, Yan said,’ Not a bad performance tonight @chitoveraUFC We may share the octagon one day ’
