Polyana Viana won at UFC 258 but she also prevented herself getting robbed in Brazil a few years back

UFC 258 had some big fights on the prelim and early prelim cards too with Brazilian star Polyana Viana starring.

The 28-year-old is one of several Brazilians in the UFC and while she had a tough fight against Mallory Martin, there is more to Viana than just her MMA story.

This goes back to 2019 when she was in Brazil and was almost robbed. The then 26-year-old was waiting outside her apartment in Rio de Janeiro when a man wanted her phone.

The would be robber also was carrying a fake gun but he didn’t know about Viana’s MMA roots. She didn’t waste time as she aimed punches and kicks at the man before using a choke hold on him.

She held the man till the police came and handed him over. The 28-year-old then told CNN about the ordeal and she was calm about all this:

“When he got close, I already thought if this guy is a thief, I’ll do this and that. I already knew what I was going to do.

“I did not do it on impulse, I was calm, I knew what I was going to do. But I only did it because I knew he did not have a gun.”

Viana added that she didn’t want others to deal with robberies in such a way since she was trained, but even Dana White got hold of this and shared a picture of the injured assailant.

Polyana Viana gets the win via a super armbar

Viana was back in action against Martin and got the win rather quickly. This came in the first round with just 3:16 having gone.

The Brazilian used an armbar to get the huge win and this took her record to 12-4. Viana has the nickname of The Iron Lady in the Octagon and she more than proved it against her would be robber back in Brazil.
