Gaethje vs Chandler (MMA Junkie)
UFC 268 main card set to be kicked off by Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler
It has been recently revealed that the highly anticipated lightweight bout between Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler will kick off the UFC 268 main card. The match up was earlier planned to take place right before the co-main event of Rose Namajunas and Weili Zhang.
However, the fight was pushed earlier because of Justin Gaethje’s head coach Trevor Wittman. Wittman is also the head coach of Namajunas and Kamaru Usman who are set to fight in the co-main and the main event respectively.
This move will also allow Wittman with more time to prep for the two title fights of the night. The magnitude of the fight made sense for it to happen right before the co-main but it would’ve added to the burden of Wittman.
The fight is very important for both Chandler and Gaethje who competed for the lightweight title in their last fights. A win here can most certainly put them next in line yet again for the lightweight strap.
The fans are very excited upon hearing the news that Gaethje and Chandler will kick off the main card. The atmosphere at the Madison Square Garden is set to be electrifying and a kick off to a amazing card with a fight like this would certainly give the fans no time to chill.
