Abubakar Nurmagomedov tells if Kamaru Usman vs Khabib Nurmagomedov was possible and how it would play out
Khabib Nurmagomedov officially retired earlier this month, which means that a lot of his potential opponents have now just been reduced to being his opponents in a fantasy fight.
One such fighter is Kamaru Usman, who is the UFC welterweight champion. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is good friends with Khabib and they train on the same team.
That is a fact that the interviewer from RT Sport stated in his reasoning behind why Usman vs Khabib was never impossible, even if Khabib was still active.
But he did ask Abubakar Nurmagomedov, who has trained with both, to predict how the fight would have gone down.
“I can’t fantasize like people do. Kamaru has his strong attributes. Khabib has some of his own. Their fighting style differs, do you understand me? Kamaru Usman, when he has to work standing up, he keeps it on the feet. When he needs to wrestle, he wrestles. But Khabib always wrestles, always puts pressure. takes them down and dominates…”
Khabib’s cousin has his own fight to look forward to this weekend. The ‘Dagestani Gangster’ is all set to take on Jared Gooden of America at UFC 260.
Gooden (17-5-0), like Abubakar, is a welterweight fighter that lost his debut UFC fight. His loss came against Alan Jouban at UFC 255.
But for Abubakar’s loss, you’d have to go back over 16 months when he lost to David Zawada at UFC Fight Night 163 in Russia.
But he has a chance to put things right now and get a win in the promotion. The 31-year-old could well be a changed fighter now.
He has been training with his brother, Khabib, more intensely recently and ‘The Eagle’ even called him ‘next in line’.
