Just 6 years into his MMA career, AJ McKee has already cemented his name as one of the greatest fighters in the history of the Bellator.
‘The Mercenary’ is 17-0 in his professional MMA career, and has been running the show since day 1.
The 26-year old made his MMA debut at Bellator 136 on the 30th of April in 2015, and has looked absolutely sensational in every department of the fight game, ever since.
One must know that McKee has a father who has ‘fight’ running through his veins even at the age of 51. Antonio McKee, AJ McKee’s father is still an active MMA fighter. Even more impressive is the fact that he is signed to the Bellator where his son is competing as well.
Antonio McKee was born on the 12th of March in 1970. Being the son of a mother who was a travelling entertainer, Antonio and his mom had to keep shifting places. He himself has revealed that he had no idea who his dad was.
In a troubled childhood, Antonio somehow found shelter after he began wrestling at Long Beach Polytechnic High School. His career began taking form right from the time he began practising the sport.
Antonio made his MMA debut at the age of 29 in a promotion called Ready to Rumble. In four years time, his MMA record read 11 wins, 3 loss and 1 draw, after having fought across various promotions.
He then went on a massive winning streak. Barring a draw, Antonio went on a 14-fight winning streak, across MMA promotions like IFL, MFC and a couple of others.
This got him a chance in the UFC. At UFC 125 on the 1st of January, 2011, Antonio faced Jacob Volkman in Las Vegas, Nevada. The then-40-year-old came inches close to defeating Volkman, as he went down fighting to a split decision loss.
He then left the promotion, and has fought only sporadically ever since. After leaving the UFC, Antonio went on a three-fight win streak, before being stopped by Shinya Aoki via. TKO at Dream 18.
Antonio’s last fight in his career was in the Bellator. It was at Bellator 228, where his son fought Georgi Karakhanyan the very same night. Both father and son ended up winning that night.
Although, Antonio hasn’t fought in almost 2 years, he still is active and hasn’t announced his retirement.
