Alexander Hernandez is at Fight Island and had some great words for new UFC signing Michael Chandler
UFC Lightweight star Alexander Hernandez is presently at Fight Island as he is set to corner during the event.
The 27-year-old might have lost his last clash to Drew Dober, but he was keen on getting back into the action. Hernandez wasn’t looking to fight any big names now as he spoke about changing his strategy to make it big when the time is right.
However, he did share his thoughts on UFC’s latest signing, Michael Chandler, to Helen Yee. The American is a former Bellator Lightweight champion and was snapped up after becoming a free agent.
“I think he will be exciting. I have a lot of respect for Chandler, I watched him a long time coming up. Think he’s a kind of a freak of nature but these guys are in a different place in their career than I am.
“I am still on the crescendo and these guys are looking for a couple of legacy fights on their way out.
“I don’t really even consider him as a threat, you know. But I think he will be an exciting turbulent bump in the weight class just to see another big name come in and get some exciting fights for sure.”
UFC 254 sees one of the biggest fights in the history of the promotion. Undefeated champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, takes on Justin Gaethje, who is the interim UFC Lightweight champion.
Chandler is expected to cause some problems in the Lightweight division. However, Hernandez predicted that it was Gaethje who would defeat the Russian:
“If I am thinking to fight someone, Khabib seems, as undefeated as he is, he still seems more beatable than Gaethje in my eyes.
“I don’t see anywhere Gaethje can fall short in that fight. I do give it to Gaethje in that match up.”
Chandler is the stand-by for this UFC 254 main event. Hopefully, he doesn’t need to step in as Gaethje vs Khabib should be a battle for the ages.
