Alexander Volkanovski will fight Max Holloway in a trilogy fight at UFC 272 – also their third title fight

The trilogy is set. Alexander Volkanovski will be defending his featherweight title against familiar foe Max Holloway at UFC 272 on the first week of March 2022.

The news was reported by ESPN reporter Brett Okamoto after he had learned the same from UFC President Dana White. The fight will be for 5 rounds on the 5th of March.

Volkanovski and Holloway first met at UFC 245 on the 14th of December, 2019. ‘Blessed’ was the featherweight champion then. After a five-round war, Volkanovski emerged victorious via. unanimous decision.

They met again at UFC 251. Volk held on once again. This time Holloway came even closer to getting his title back. In the end, it was a split decision that prevented the Hawaiian from reclaiming the title.

Volkanovski is coming off a unanimous decision win over Brian Ortega at UFC 266. Holloway, meanwhile, last beat Yair Rodriguez in late 2021 in one of the greatest featherweight fights of all time.

UFC 272 is stacked. Besides the featherweight title fight between Volkanovski and Ortega, bitter rivals Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling will fight it out for the bantamweight title.

Sterling is currently the champion after beating Yan in a rather dubious manner at UFC 259. He hasn’t fought since then.
