Volkanovski was set to defend his title against Max Holloway after having beaten him twice already. The pair met at UFC 245 and Max lost his belt to the Aussie in what was a razor-close fight. The rematch was an even closer fight with many suggesting that Max won the fight by sheer activity. ‘The Blessed Express’ was put to a halt and forced to withdraw from the fight at UFC 273 due to lingering past injuries.

This past week, MMA Fighting confirmed that Holloway has been cleared to resume training and has offered to be a backup for the 145-pound title fight should he be needed. Volkanovski expressed his doubts and suspicion of the injury in a tweet that he put out earlier this week.

Although Volkanovski has two wins against Max, he is determined to bury all questions that fans have in their minds regarding the two fights. The fight is also tipped to cement either fighter’s legacy as the greatest featherweight of all time.

Former UFC fighter Henry Cejudo was not happy with Alexander Volkanovski taking up the fight against ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung

At UFC 272, Alexander Volkanovski was scheduled to fight Max Holloway in a trilogy fight. Due to an injury, Holloway was forced to withdraw.

A number of names were thrown into the mix – Chan Sung Jung, Yair Rodriguez and former fighter Henry Cejudo were the notable names.

However, it only took a few days before Volkanovski’s opponent was decided – ‘The Korean Zombie.’ The number 4 ranked featherweight will face the Aussie on the 9th of April, 2022 at UFC 273.

Henry Cejudo was not happy following the Volkanovski-Chan Sung Jung fight announcement. ‘Triple C’ hit out at Volk on Twitter. He wrote:

“Hey @alexvolkanovski it figures you would go for the Zombie…and not the guy that would turn you into the Walking Dead.

Cejudo announced his retirement after beating Dominick Cruz via. second-round TKO at UFC 249. He beat Cruz to become the UFC Bantamweight Champion that night.
